My first idea for my mapping final is a combination of what we did in Bath, and what we have done in the GIL theatre class. I am envisioning a wider map of London. I want to go to every major theatre and take the poster of a current/future production and place it on their position on the map. Much like my animal Bath map, it would show both the different kinds of posters and the density of theatres. Since we have seen so many different performances at so many different theatres, it would be cool to see where others are located and the kind of shows they are putting on.
The main piece of technology I would use for this experiment would be a place like google maps, just to get the list of all of the theatres in London. Once I track those down, it would be up to me to visit them and take pictures of one of their posters. I do not want to just get a picture out of the internet. I want to be able to have a picture I took of a poster in a case at the theatre itself. I might also be able to located a lot of the theatres through londontheatre.co.uk.
Beyond just using it as a map of diversity and density, I think this map will look very aesthetically pleasing. Imagine a collage of all of the major shows happening in London currently against a white backdrop. I would use map+ and procreate, just like we did in Bath, in order to complete this idea.
Another possible final project idea could be an offshoot of what we completed in Aveburry, but on a much higher scale. It would also incorporate the dual screen feature that we used for our cemetery tour. I want to spell out something, or create some kind of design, while recording my movement with the stabilizer go pro camera. The word I would write is currently a mystery, but I really want to utilize that dual screen feature from the cemetery on the streets of London.
One possible idea for this project could be a walk of Regents park. I think it would be cool to walk through every path in an area of regents park with Map+ tracking the movement while doing a POV recording. There are many paths in the center of regents park (specifically the gardens) that are not apparent in google maps. Walking through every single path would create an interesting design on Map+ and give a lot of great shots of the gardens. I image one upper corner being the design tracking with the rest being a continuous Go Pro shot.
This idea could also be taken in a different direction. Instead of writing a word or making a design, I could walk between significant points. For my ipad stop motion project, I walked from the place Jimi Hendrix lived to the place he died. I think it would be interesting to pick a celebrity or musician that spent their life and London and just walk between relevant points in the order they lived it in. Each stop could be contrasted with an old picture, such as our postcard project. I really just want to produce a time lapse with map+ tracking, so show both scenery and distance of whatever walk I take.
